ICAST Report 2011 – Hobie Continues to Innovate

As kayak fishing continues to grow in popularity, companies like Hobie continue to fill in product lines in response to consumer demand. Case in point is Hobie’s new Mirage Revolution II, a shorter, more nimble model, yet featuring Hobie’s patented/popular MirageDrive system. Rather than paddling this craft, two self-centering pedal drive two underwater flippers for propulsion and control; steering is controlled by a rudder control by hand in the fishing cockpit. This leave hands free for fishing.

The Mirage Revolution II runs just 11’ 6,’’ is 29’’ wide and features a hull weight of 47 pounds (MirageDrive system add another 6.6 pounds). It has a capacity of 300 pounds. Standard features include an oversized forward hatch, two 8-inch twist and seal hatches, and on-deck receptacle for optional sail mast or nav-anchor light, gear buck, comfortable seat (with lumbar support) and two molded-in carrying grips.

Suggested retail is $1,749.

Hobie unveiled the Mirage Revolution II at the ICAST show and angler journalists rated it BEST OF SHOW—BOAT because it represents the best new product for kayak fishing. It is indeed impressive.
